There's been a lot of new street art popping up in our neighbourhood lately and some of it is really pretty, so I thought I'd share. Maybe Wedding is really becoming the new hip district, like everyone has claimed for years. *lol*

Along the Spree in Friedrichshain district a stretch of the Berlin Wall, the so-called East Side Gallery was preserved and painted by artists as a memorial. Over the years, the painting have cracked and faded, and tourists and Berliners alike have added their own little graffiti - quotes, names, greetings, the usual. So, tomorrow there is a plebiscite on whether to keep air traffic at Tempelhof airport, as opposed to closing it down in favour of the international airport at Schönefeld, turning the area into a leisure park kind of thing. The BVG, Berlin's public transport company, went on indefinite strike today. That means no subway, no tram and very few "emergency buses", mostly to the airports. FANTASTIC. Fortunately the S-Bahn is still running and covers the most important spots, but you still have to change trains a zillion times and/or walk for ages. For example, to get to ( Read more... )

There's some sort of street party going on here today, with some booth and a small stage. It's a nice idea, I think, trying to bring some sort of positive spirit - Wedding is a relatively low-income, high-crime-rate part of town*, but in our area at least there have been some efforts lately to provide activities for the kids and things like that.
